Become a Mentor

MENTORS

L.O.V.E. supports and empowers young women to strive both in school and life through positive role modeling.

Our mentors are the backbone of our organization. We recruit female college students to support, guide, and be role models to the young women we serve. Our mentors understand and relate to our mentees because they have gone through similar experiences. In turn, our mentees can see themselves reflected in their mentors.

What motivated you to become a mentor with L.O.V.E.?

"Their mission to help young girls become their best self was something that I’ve always been passionate about. I love helping and supporting others but once I saw how they incorporated the importance of mental and physical health, this made me want to join even more. Moreover, I also wanted to join because I wish I had someone like me who would speak on crucial topics because I know for sure that if I would’ve had L.O.V.E. growing up, my mentality and perspective on things would’ve been different."

What advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders?

"The #1 advice I would give the next generation of female leaders would be to do it and do it scared !!! Because we will never know how far we can go if we don’t just do it. Stepping out of our comfort zone is where we grow and learn, but if we don’t that’s when we can start to doubt our abilities and overthink. Also, I would say it’s okay to not be okay. I know it seems we need to have everything figured out but that’s not the case and it’s completely normal. YOU GOT THIS!!! ."

What are your goals for the future, both personally and professionally?

"My goals for the future in terms of my professional and personal life would be to be in a career field that I love and enjoy, networking, and making an impact in our society. As for my personal goal I want to be evolving and working on myself and my happiness, living in the present moment and becoming a better version of myself ."

What motivated you to become a mentor with L.O.V.E.?

"What mainly motivated me to be part of L.O.V.E. was the fact that I wanted to help my community here in NY. I read the name of the organization and the first thing I said was “this is my place!”. To be a mentor at  L.O.V.E., it has given me the opportunity to interact with Latina girls in NY and empower them, somehow motivating them to be proud of themselves and to not feel ashamed of what their goals are. To be a mentor is to be a guide, a listener, and advisor. What best way to help than doing it with the girls who will be the leaders of great big things in the future? We as women are not weak or vulnerable. We are powerful, we are marvelous. We might not be wonder women, but each of us, are a wonder of women."

What advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders?

"Never stop dreaming and never stop working hard for what you want in your life. It is never to late to start over again or change something in your life, if you have the will and passion to do it, there will always be a way. Never forget how strong you are and that you are one of God’s precious child. The gifts He has given you is to share them with love. You are never going to be alone in your life, even though you feel it that way, there is always somebody reminding you how special you are and how important you are in this world, just don’t lose your focus. Think positive, smile, and never give up!"

What are your goals for the future, both personally and professionally?

"I would like to be part of research that will help understand human behavior and find ways to positively change those behaviors. In addition, I would like to help as many people as possible in my job. Personally, I am open to any adventure life wants to bring me. Unfortunately, after graduating this June 2nd, I have to go back to my home country Honduras. However, I am eager to see what doors are going to open in my life for the future and the ways I am going to be able to keep helping the people around me."
